Three Styles. One Tournament.
Takedown at Twilight features competition in three distinct wrestling styles, giving every athlete the chance to compete in the format that fits their training. Each style tests different skills and demands a different approach on the mat.
Folkstyle
Folkstyle wrestling emphasizes control and dominance — wrestlers score points by taking down their opponent, working to a pinning position, and riding out on top. This is the style most commonly practiced in U.S. scholastic programs and the foundation for many youth wrestlers.
Freestyle
Freestyle opens up the attack game — leg attacks, exposure, and back points all come into play. Both athletes can score from bottom, making it a fast-paced, offensive-minded style contested internationally at all levels.
Greco-Roman
Greco-Roman forbids attacks or holds below the waist, shifting the focus to upper-body clinch work, throws, and lifts. Competitors who develop Greco skills build powerful upper-body technique and explosive, high-amplitude throws.
First-Year Division
For wrestlers in their first year of competition.
The First-Year Division is designed specifically for newcomers stepping onto the competitive mat for the first time. All brackets in this division are filled exclusively by first-year competitors, ensuring every wrestler faces opponents at a comparable experience level. This is the ideal starting point for athletes building confidence, learning match structure, and discovering their style under real tournament conditions.
Elite Division
For advanced and highly competitive wrestlers.
The Elite Division brings together the tournament's most accomplished competitors. Athletes who have achieved significant tournament success or are recognized as advanced competitors in their age group should register for this division. Brackets in the Elite Division are built for high-level match quality from the opening round through the finals.
Age Groups & Weight Classes
Takedown at Twilight runs two age-group sessions to keep competition appropriately matched. Athletes ages 5-11 compete in the earlier session; athletes ages 12-18 compete in the later session. Weight classes within each bracket ensure every wrestler faces opponents of comparable size.
Ages 5-11
Competition for this group begins at 3:30 PM on each event day. Weight classes for this bracket will be posted on the registration page. Wrestlers register for the weight class that reflects their competition weight — not simply their current weight.
Ages 12-18
Competition for this group begins at 6:30 PM on each event day. This session runs later into the evening, consistent with the Takedown at Twilight night-event format. Weight classes for this bracket will be posted on the registration page.
Exact weight class listings and registration cutoffs will be published ahead of the August 7-9 event dates. Check the registration page or FAQ for the most current weight class information.
Place Recognition
Every weight class across all three wrestling styles awards recognition to the top six finishers. Athletes who place 1st through 6th in their bracket will receive recognition at the conclusion of their division's competition.

Recognition is awarded per weight class, per style. An athlete competing in multiple styles is eligible for recognition in each style.
Best in Tournament Belt
One championship belt is awarded per wrestling style — Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco-Roman — to the athlete judged the best competitor in that style across the entire tournament. These are the highest individual honors at Takedown at Twilight. Three belts total will be awarded across the event weekend.
